Brazil’s Bolsonaro says pension reform vote cannot take all year

March 8, 2019

BRASILIA (Reuters) – Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said on Friday that the country cannot take all year to vote on pension reform, and that continuing without addressing the biggest threat to the public finances could lead to economic chaos.

The Economy Ministry said last month that leaving the pension system as it is could trigger a deep recession starting in the second half of next year, culminating in the economy shrinking by 1.8 percent in 2023.
