This position is located at Southern Correctional Institution in Troy, North Carolina. This position has the responsibility of processing, reviewing and distributing all outgoing and incoming mail, packages, legal mail, certified mail and courier mail at the facility. This position is responsible for maintaining security of the facility by searching and reviewing all incoming mail and when applicable, all outgoing mail for unauthorized items, contraband and correspondence deemed a threat to the safe, secure and orderly function of the institution. This position sorts and distributes large quantities of interoffice staff correspondence and mail. The position processes indigent inmate mail. This position requires vast knowledge of Division of Prisons and Institutional Standard Operating Procedures and Policies governing the handling of all mail and parcels, disposition of unauthorized property. The position requires a high degree of confidentiality, honesty and trustworthiness. Requires the ability to operate a personal computer, utilizing Offender Population Unified System (OPUS) and Outlook. Requires the use of electronic postage scales for weighing packages and other parcels. Requires the use of the electronic postage machine to correctly stamp outgoing mail and parcels. Requires the daily operation of fax/copy machine.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
