    Responsibilities

    This job opportunity is for a Lead Clerk position in the Kit and Assembly Section, Decennial Logistics Branch (DLB) at the National Processing Center (NPC), U.S. Bureau of the Census located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This position provides for temporary additional assistance in support of processing activities related to the Decennial Census. This position is included in the bargaining unit.

    Selectees will initially report to the main Jeffersonville campus and then will move to the off-site Decennial facility located at 100 Logistics Ave., Jeffersonville, IN 47130 which is approximately 7.8 miles from the main National Processing Center campus.

    The individual selected for this position will:

    • Identify the workflow, equipment and space capacity required for new Kit Assembly Areas;
    • Insure materials and supplies are available for assembly;
    • Coordinate work activities closely with other Assembly Units;
    • Instruct clerks in proper procedures, work methods, time limitations for completing phases of kit assembly;
    • Prepare appropriate forms, records, logs, tallies, schedule changes;
    • Advise supervisor of action taken and/or problems encountered.

    Tour of Duty: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No Alternate Work Schedule or other flexible schedules are available.

    Physical Demands: The work may involve: sedentary or more active work; frequent walking, bending, and stooping may be required; frequent lifting/pushing of objects weighing up to 35 pounds and occasional lifting/pushing of objects over 35 pounds; extended periods of repetitive motion at a constant speed; and extended periods of standing depending upon Branch/unit assignment.

    Work Environment: Work is performed in a warehouse environment. The work usually involves moderate risks and discomfort which require special safety precautions while operating and working around the lines and equipment, e.g., paper cuts, paper dusts, machine/forklift noise, various odors, and sometimes subdued lighting.

    Candidates must clear the fingerprint process and initiate the required background investigation prior to final selection.

    A one-year trial period may be required.

    Qualifications

    You qualify at the grade 05 level if you possess one year of specialized experience that equips you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the grade 04 level to meet the qualification requirements in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is organizing documents to a prescribed list; sorting and boxing forms for distribution/shipment; preparing forms, records, logs, tallies; and maintaining quality standards.

    Education Substitution: Successful completion of 4 full years of study above the high school level in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, college, or university may be substituted for the required experience. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grade GG-5.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations, (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
