BEVERLY HILLS (Reuters) – International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde said on Monday she expects the United States and China to reach agreement on trade issues.
“I would say ‘Yes’,” Lagarde said at the Milken Institute Global Conference on Monday when asked whether talks between the world’s two largest economies, which have reached a critical point, will end in a deal. The two countries have been engaged in a trade war for months, threatening tariffs that have unnerved international markets.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was scheduled to speak at the conference on Monday but is headed to China instead for talks.
